Hooke’s Story

“Hook is the second born of three children. He is a lovely boy that the good Lord blessed me with. He is very intelligent and I thank heaven for that. However, he was born with genu varus. This has brought sorrow on my family. People mock him because of how he walks. In fact, my son likes staying indoors in fear of being laughed at. This really breaks my heart so much. I come from Mozambique and where I live, I consulted different hospitals but they could not assist my son. I then lost all hope and thought there was no solution to his problem until one day, some kind people told me about CURE Malawi. I was so happy to hear about that, but then the big question was – where will I get money for the transport? This added more pain in my heart especially when I thought of the kind of man my son will grow into if not treated. It was as if I was dreaming one day when some well wishers said they will provide transport for me to get here to Malawi. I really couldn’t believe them until they told me for the second time. I was very overwhelmed with joy and I thanked God for the miracle. I spoke to myself, ‘oh! God you are really alive!’ And He watches over us. To be realistic, He knows everything we need and has the ability to do it for us. May God bless them and bless even others that give toward the hospital’s welfare. I am so happy to be here at CURE and I like the hospitality that CURE staff has. They are all like one family – very humble, loving and caring,” Margalita, Hooke’s mother told us with a smile.
