Clayton Kershaw visits CURE Dominican Republic
We were honored to have Clayton, A.J., Brandon, and Brandon in for a visit to the Dominican Republic. From attending devotions to spending time with kids preparing for and recovering from surgery – as well as witnessing a surgery – to visiting the home of a child who had been healed at CURE, the group was able to see a wide range of what CURE does on a daily basis. It was encouraging for us to hear that throughout the course of the day, they saw the gospel being expressed through the work of CURE.
The story of a smile
Happy Friday, and happy World Smile Day! To celebrate, we’d like to share Sharifa’s story with you.
Sharifa is one of many children whose smiles have been restored through cleft surgery at CURE. Thanks to the CUREkids program, we’ve been able to follow her story since she first came to CURE Niger in May.
It’s incredible to see the change one surgery can make. It certainly made quite a change for Sharifa! Here is a portion of her journey at CURE Niger, as told by Jamile Lopes, our CUREkids Coordinator in Niger.
Little Bodies, Big Hearts
It surprises me to realize that I’ve had a desk at CURE Headquarters for almost 6 months now. I spend my days educating others about CURE’s mission to live out Luke 9:2, “Healing the sick and proclaiming the kingdom of God.” But that balmy, rain-filled Friday in Uganda was the first time my feet walked on CURE soil, a living, breathing place full of hope, life, and restoration. The lettering on the sign was familiar to my American eyes, but innately I knew there would be little else that was familiar.
ENT Outreach in Zambia
Since 2010, CURE Zambia has been in the possession of a mobile ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) clinic truck, gifted to us by Gorta and Irish Aid, and has conducted screenings all around Zambia. Minor procedures and extractions can be done on site, while more serious issues are referred to our permanent hospital in Lusaka. For all the children, the visit is an event and for the ones with hearing issues, it is life-changing!
